KENNESAW, Ga. - Duke University's Mollie Pathman has been named the recipient of the Elite 89 Award for the 2011 NCAA Div. I women's soccer College Cup.
Pathman, an undeclared major, currently carries a 3.912 GPA. The Duke sophomore was presented with the award during the College Cup banquet on Thursday evening in Kennesaw. A two-time Dean's List honoree, Pathman is the first Blue Devils women's soccer player to earn the distinction and the third Duke student-athlete since the award was created in 2009.
The Elite 89, an award founded by the NCAA, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The Elite 89 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's championships.
Pathman and the Blue Devils will face Wake Forest on Friday, Dec. 2 at 7:30 p.m. in the semifinals of the 2011 NCAA College Cup.
