North Carolina, the two-time defending NCAA champion, is seeking its sixth straight ACC title and its 22nd in 24 years.

Four teams in this year's ACC Championship field - third-ranked Maryland, fourth-ranked UNC, seventh-ranked Virginia and eighth-ranked Florida State - are currently ranked among the nation's Top 10. Boston College is ranked as high as 11th nationally (by Soccer America), while Wake Forest is ranked 21st by Soccer Times and shares the No. 25 ranking in the most recent Soccer America poll with Duke. All eight teams in this year's ACC Championship field competed in the 2009 NCAA Tournament, posting a league-record 20 wins and placing four teams among the final eight. This will mark the third straight year, and the seventh time in eight seasons, that Cary, N.C., has hosted the ACC Women's Soccer Championship. WakeMed Soccer Park will also be the site of the ACC Men's Soccer Championship, set for Nov. 9-10, 12 and 14, and the NCAA Women's College Cup on Dec. 3 and 5.
