GREENSBORO, N.C. - Boston College sophomore midfielder Gibby Wagner has been named the final Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week for the 2011 season.
Wagner led the way Thursday night as the Eagles scored a 2-0 win over No. 7 Wake Forest, a victory that assured them of hosting Sunday's ACC Championship quarterfinal.
Wagner delivered her second career game-winning goal 10 minutes into the match and almost notched her second of the game in the second half. The Wall, N.J., native, who now has two goals and four assists on the season, helped the 15th-ranked Eagles improve to 6-4 in the ACC and move into fourth place ahead of Wake Forest in the final regular-season standings.
BC will now host fifth-seeded Wake Forest in Sunday's 1 p.m. quarterfinal. Other quarterfinal action on Sunday finds top-seeded Duke playing host to eight-seeded Virginia Tech, No. 2 Virginia at home against seventh-seeded Maryland, and third-seeded North Carolina at home against sixth-seeded Florida State.
