GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina sophomore forward Alyssa Rich has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week following a two-game stint that included a hat trick and the winning goal against the nation’s fifth-ranked team.
Rich added an assist in addition to her four goals as the top-ranked Tar Heels won the championship of the 2010 Duke Nike Classic with wins over Middle Tennessee State, 7-1 and fifth-ranked Florida, 2-0. Rich scored the game-winning goals in both matches, was named to the All-Tournament Team and now leads the Tar Heels in goals with seven and in total points with 19.
Rich had the first hat trick of her career and also assisted on the first goal in the win over the Blue Raiders on Friday. Her seven total points were the most by an ACC player in a single match this season. Two days later, Rich scored the game-winner in the 61st minute as the Tar Heels won a hard-fought battle against the fifth-ranked Gators. The Cincinnati native’s performance helped North Carolina complete the non-conference portion of its 2010 schedule with an 8-0-1 record.
