Clemson Hosts 2010 ACC Rowing Championship

April 23, 2010

Greensboro, NC - Virginia, the nation’s third-ranked rowing team, heads into the Saturday’s 11th Annual Atlantic Coast Conference Rowing Championships, top-seeded in three of the four events--the First Varsity Eight, the Second Varsity Eight and the First Varsity Four--as the Cavaliers seek to reclaim the ACC title they lost to host Clemson last year at Oak Ridge, Tenn. Clemson, ranked 13th nationally, is the top seed in the Novice Eight and is second seeded in the First Varsity Eight, the Second Varsity Eight and the First Varsity Four. The Tigers are also the NCAA’s defending national champions in the First Varsity Four.

Clemson’s victory last year marked the first time a team other than Virginia had captured the ACC Rowing Championship. The Cavaliers took the first nine ACC Rowing titles. This year’s ACC Rowing Championship will be held on Lake Hartwell and will be hosted by Clemson. It marks the 8th time the Tigers have hosted the Championship which will begin at 8:40 a.m. Saturday with an exhibition race of the Second Varsity Fours. The scoring events begin at 9 a.m. with the First Varsity Four, continuing, in order, with the Novice 8+ (9:20 am), the Second Varsity 8+ (9:40 a.m.), and finally, with the First Varsity 8+ at 10 a.m.
