GREENSBORO, N.C. – Duke freshman attacker Kelci Smesko and sophomore defender Gabby Moise have been named Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Lacrosse Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, as announced Tuesday by the conference.
Smesko registered new career highs with four goals and seven points, pacing the Duke attack in Sunday’s 18-9 win over Boston University. A native of Ridgewood, N.J., Smesko also matched a career best with three assists and continues to rank second on the team in that category with 16 on the spring. Smesko has now posted four hat tricks this season to go with five multiple assist games and ranks among the top 15 players in the ACC at 2.47 points per contest.
Duke’s leader in caused turnovers with 24 this spring, Moise tallied two more in Sunday’s win over Boston University. She also marked Terriers’ leading scorer Danielle Etrasco, limiting her to three points. A native of Princeton, N.J., Moise is part of a defensive unit that allows just 8.88 goals per game and has held nine opponents this season to single-digit scoring. She currently ranks third in the conference with an average of 1.41 caused turnovers per game.
