Seven ACC Women Named as Tewaaraton Nominees

WASHINGTON – The Tewaaraton Foundation has announced the 2013 Tewaaraton Award women’s nominees, presented by Panama Jack. The list includes seven student-athletes from the ACC: Boston College’s Mikaela Rix, Duke’s Kerrin Maurer and Taylor Virden, Maryland’s Alex Aust, Iliana Sanza, and Katie Schwarzmann, and North Carolina’s Kara Cannizzaro. 

Twenty-five women and 25 men were selected as nominees, from which the 13th annual Tewaaraton Award finalists (five women, five men) will be selected and honored May 30, 2013, at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C.

ACC student-athletes have won five times in the 12 year history of the award, including last year when Schwarzmann took home the trophy. Other ACC winners are Maryland’s Jen Adams in 2001, Virginia’s Amy Appelt in 2004, Duke’s Katie Chrest in 2005, and Maryland’s Caitlyn McFadden in 2010.
