GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Duke senior attacker Makenzie Hommel and freshman goalkeeper Kelsey Duryea have been named Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Lacrosse Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, as announced Tuesday by the conference.
Hommel paced the Duke offense through two games last week, totaling nine points in victories over Davidson and Ohio State. She matched career highs with five goals and six points Saturday against the Buckeyes, a 15-9 Blue Devil victory.
A native of Setauket, N.Y., Hommel pushed her team-leading season total to 41 goals on the spring. She now has recorded hat tricks in eight games this season and ranks 18th on the program’s all-time charts with 112 goals for her career.
Duryea anchored a defense that limited opponents to single-digit scoring for the seventh and eighth times this spring. The rookie totaled 16 saves in two contests to improve her record to 7-3 on the year.
Against Davidson, the native of Beverly, Mass., recorded nine saves and allowed six goals on 15 shots faced. Duryea then made seven saves against Ohio State on 22 shots faced. This is her third ACC Defensive Player of the Week honor this season.
