Maryland's Katie Schwarzmann Earns ACC Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week Honor

GREENSBORO, N.C.- Maryland freshman Katie Schwarzmann was named Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week for the period ending March 28, announced today. Schwarzmann tallied five goals and six points in a pair of wins over ranked opponents on the week to move No. 2 Maryland to a perfect 10-0 in 2010.

The freshman from Sykesville, Md., scored two goals and added an assist as the Terps routed No. 8 Stanford, 20-8, Thursday in College Park. Defensively, the midfielder helped hold the Cardinal to a mere eight goals, while causing a turnover and adding a draw control. Maryland has now topped four top-10 foes this season by a total of 68-28. Schwarzmann picked up her first collegiate game-winner against No. 20 JMU on the road on Saturday when her third goal of the match provided the Terps with the win with 5:56 remaining in the game. The rookie also added a caused turnover, a ground ball and a draw control as Maryland held its ninth opponent of the year to single-digit goals.

Maryland returns home Wednesday for a match against Towson. Opening draw is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.
