GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina senior midfielder Kara Cannizzaro and Duke freshman goalkeeper Kelsey Duryea have been named Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Lacrosse Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, as announced Tuesday by the conference.
Cannizzaro totaled eight goals and three assists in a pair of Tar Heels wins last week. She had game highs with four goals and two assists in the come-from-behind, 11-10 win over 10th-ranked Cornell on Wednesday night, including scoring the tying goal with 5:16 to play. She also had two caused turnovers and two ground balls against the Big Red. Three nights later against Boston College, the native of Cazenovia, N.Y., had four goals and one assist in a 19-11 Tar Heel win.
Duryea matched a season-best performance with 12 saves in a 13-7 road victory over No. 9 Virginia. She improved to 5-0 on the season with the win and now owns a goals against average of 8.55 and a save percentage of .557. The native of Beverly, Mass., anchored a defensive unit that held its opponent to single-digit scoring for the third consecutive game and the sixth time overall in 2013.
