GREENSBORO, N.C. - Duke redshirt junior Emma Hamm and Virginia junior Bailey Fogarty have been named Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Lacrosse Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week presented by Chevrolet, respectively, for the period ending on Monday, March 21.
Hamm led Duke to a pair of victories last week, allowing her third-ranked Blue Devils a five-game win streak and a mark of 8-1 on the year. Against Virginia Tech, the Wayne, Pa., native registered two goals and three assists, while also winning four draw controls, picking up two ground balls and causing a turnover in the complete game effort. Hamm, one of Duke's tri-captains, followed up that performance with a game-high six points on a season-high five goals and an assist versus No. 18 Dartmouth. The midfielder also added three draw controls, three caused turnovers and a ground ball in the effort. On the year, Hamm is the only Blue Devil to total double figures in goals, assists, groundballs, draw controls and caused turnovers as she leads the team in goals (27) and draw controls (39).
Fogarty finished the week with a team-best seven ground balls and five caused turnovers, in addition to six draw controls. The defender's four caused turnovers against the Tribe marked a season-high and were crucial to sparking Virginia's come-from-behind victory, as the Cavaliers were down seven goals with 25 minutes to play. In addition, the Chevy Chase, Md., native's six ground balls against William & Mary were also a season-high.
ACC Women's Lacrosse action continues tonight (Tuesday, March 22) as Maryland travels to take on Stony Brook, the host for the upcoming 2011 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championships. The game is slated to begin at 4 p.m.
