Reese Earns 100th Win, #3 Terps Top Virginia Tech, Maryland drops Virginia Tech, 18-4

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Head coach Cathy Reese captured her 100th career win Saturday as No. 3 Maryland routed Virginia Tech, 18-4, to secure a share of the Atlantic Coast Conference regular-season title.

Maryland (14-1, 4-1 ACC) picked up scoring from 10 different players on the day, led by four goals from Karri Ellen Johnson and three from Sarah Mollison, to help Reese, who is in her fourth season at the helm of the Terp program, accomplish the milestone.

The Terps started the match with a dominating 7-0 run, highlighted by three goals from recently named Tewaaraton nominee Johnson. A shutdown Maryland defense did not allow a Hokie score until Allie Emala put Virginia Tech (6-10, 0-5 ACC) on the board at 13:14.

The Terps quickly answered with three more goals, capped by a score from senior Jenny Collins, to push the game tally to 10-1. Emala tacked on the Hokies' second goal with 8:15 remaining in the first period, but goals by young guns Katie Schwarzmann and Kristy Black gave Maryland a sturdy 10-goal cushion at 4:40 and allowed the clock to run for the remainder of the match. Maryland headed to the locker room at the half with a decisive 12-2 advantage.

Maryland outscored Virginia Tech, 6-2, in the second stanza, with a pair of goals each from Mollison Kate Faas and one by Johnson and Grace Gaeng.

In total, the Terps amassed 27 points on the day while 14 Maryland players added a goal and/or assist on the day. The game was Maryland's first this season at Ludwig Field, where it will play the remainder of its schedule, including next week's ACC Lacrosse Championships.
