Six of the nine ACC women’s golf teams competed in the Tar Heel Invitational, October 8-10, at the UNC Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C. Four of those teams finished in the Top 10 with Duke, Virginia and host North Carolina placing third, fourth and fifth respectively. Wake Forest placed 10th while Florida State and NC State placed 16th and 18th respectively. Virginia’s Brittany Altomare (sophomore, Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Duke’s Laetitia Beck (freshman, Caesarea, Israel) were the top ACC individual finishers with a six-under par 210 and tied for 6th place individually.
Maryland’s Christine Shimel (sophomore, Kennett Square, Pa.) tied for medalist honors (212, -1), at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate at the Greenville Country Club in Greenville, S.C. Shimel led the Terps to a team victory in the 16-team field (876, +24).
