GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) - Atlantic Coast Conference Champion Duke placed two players on the 2012 All-ACC Women's Golf team, while also capturing Coach of the Year honors for Dan Brooks and Player of the Year accolades for Lindy Duncan, as selected by the league's nine head coaches.
Duke captured its 17th overall title and claimed the 16th ACC championship for Brooks at the ACC Women's Golf Championship in April. The Blue Devils were represented by Player of the Year, Lindy Duncan, her third straight such honor. Duke has claimed at least a share of Player of the Year honors for nine straight years. Duncan's teammate, Laetitia Beck, last year's Freshman of the Year, claimed her second straight All-ACC team accolade.
North Carolina secured three players on the All-ACC team, led by four-time honoree Catherine O'Donnell. Katherine Perry and Casey Grice were named for the first time to the All-ACC team.
NC State placed two players on the prestigious All-ACC team which included first-time honorees, Augusta James - the ACC Freshman of the Year - and Brittany Marchand. James becomes the first NC State women's golfer to win ACC Freshman of the Year honors. This is also the first time the Wolfpack has placed two players on the team in one year.
Boston College, Florida State, Maryland, Virginia and Wake Forest rounded out the 12-member team with one selection each.
Boston College's freshman Katia Joo became only the second Eagle to make the All-ACC team, following Eunice Yim in 2010. Florida State senior Maria Salinas earned her second-straight honor. Maryland freshman Juliet Vongphoumy made her debut on this year's All-ACC team.
Virginia junior Brittany Altomare and Wake Forest senior Cheyenne Woods earned their third-straight honors.
Duke's Brooks was chosen as the league's Coach of the Year, his 12th such honor in the Atlantic Coast Conference and his first since 2007. Duke finished 10 strokes ahead of second-place North Carolina at this year's ACC Championship. Duke's Duncan was the medalist winner with a 3-under 210.
