Lady Puerto Rico Classic
RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico - Florida State University junior Macarena Silva shot a final round 74 and finished in a tie for 19th place in the individual standings and the No. 26 ranked Seminole women's golf team finished in a tie for sixth place in the team standings at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic at the Coco Beach Golf Club. The finish marked the Seminoles' fourth top six team finish in five events this year after they won the Lady Wildcat Invitational and earned two second place teamfinishes during the fall season.
Alabama, who took over the lead in the second round, won the team championship with an 11 stroke victory over Purdue. The Crimson Tide led the event with three players who finished in the top 10 of the individual standings. Caroline Hedwall of Oklahoma State carded a 70 in the third round and finished with a 54-hole total of 209 to gain the individual championship.
Silva (Santiago, Chile) played a very consistent tournament as she averaged 75.00 strokes in the three round event. She finished the final two rounds of the event with scores of 73-74 after carding a 78 in the first round. Silva's top 20 finish was the fourth in her last five events and the fifth of her career.
Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge
PALOS VERDES, Calif. - Duke University freshman golfer Lindy Duncan turned in a career-best fourth place finish on Wednesday at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge, which was being played at the 5,912-yard, Par 71 Palos Verdes Golf Club in Palos Verdes, Calif.
Duncan, who is a product of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., totaled rounds of 67, 76 and 73 to finish with a 54-hole total of 216, which was fourth overall in the individual action. Her final round included one birdie and one eagle that came on the sixth and 11th holes, respectively. Duncan's first collegiate eagle came on the 350-yard, par four 11th as she hit her four-iron from 165 yards into the cup. She now owns five career top 20 finishes out of five tournaments.
In the team results, Duke placed tied for sixth with rounds of 292, 305 and 303 for a total of 900. Southern California brought home the team title with a 54-hole ledger of 876. Pepperdine (879), Ohio State (897), UCLA (898), Arizona State (898), Denver (900), Duke (900), Wake Forest (904), Florida (911) and TCU (912) rounded out the top 10.
PALOS VERDES, Calif. - The Wake Forest women's golf team carded a final round 305 and finished eighth at the 2010 Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge on Wednesday at the Palos Verdes Country Club in Palos Verdes, Calif.
The Demon Deacons were led by two-time All-American Natalie Sheary and freshman Michelle Shin. Both players finished tied for seventh individually.
Sheary made a total of 15 pars in the final round on her way to a 3-over 74. This was her second top-10 of the year and she has finished inside the top-11 in four of the five events this year.
