GREENSBORO, N.C. – North Carolina junior back Caitlin Van Sickle and Virginia freshman goalkeeper Jenny Johnstone have been named the ACC Field Hockey Co-Players of the Week, announced by the conference on Tuesday.
Van Sickle scored the game-winning goal less than two minutes into overtime as second-ranked North Carolina beat top-ranked Old Dominion on Sunday. The Wilmington, Del. native scored on UNC’s second penalty corner of overtime, coming on an assist from Katelyn Falgowski. She also assisted on the first goal of the game for the Tar Heels.
Van Sickle now has five goals on the season, two of them game winners. She leads the team with nine assists and three defensive saves.
Johnstone helped Virginia get its first ACC win of the season, knocking off No. 6 Duke 3-2 in penalty strokes. The freshman tallied 14 saves against the Duke offense, the most by an ACC goalkeeper this season. She was also the winning goalkeeper in the stroke-off.
