GREENSBORO, N.C. – North Carolina midfielder Kelsey Kolojejchick tallied five points in the Tar Heels’ 3-2 win against league foe Virginia and has been honored as the Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey Player of the Week.
A sophomore from Larksville, Pa., Kolojejchick scored twice and assisted on a goal as No. 1 UNC (16-0, 4-0 ACC) edged No. 3 Virginia on Saturday, 3-2.
Kolojejchick put the Tar Heels on the board first in the 30th minute on an unassisted shot. Two minutes later, she assisted on a goal by Katie Ardrey, which gave North Carolina a 2-0 advantage at the half.
The Cavaliers stormed back to tie the game at two in the second half. With less than five minutes to go in the game, Kolojejchick scored on a penalty corner to secure the win and maintain UNC’s undefeated mark in conference play.
Against James Madison on Sunday, Kolojejchick aided in the Tar Heels’ defensive effort as they blanked the Dukes, 3-0, and notched their ninth shutout of the season.
