ACC Players of the Week Presented by Chevrolet

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Duke redshirt senior goalkeeper Samantha Nelson was named the ACC Field Hockey Player of the Week, announced by the conference on Tuesday.

Nelson allowed just one goal in two games over the weekend as Duke picked up wins over William & Mary and No. 1 Old Dominion, both on the road. Against the Tribe, Nelson directed a defense that allowed just five shots to earn her fifth shutout of the season.

Versus the previously undefeated Monarchs, the Rockville, Md., native made eight saves in the Blue Devils' overtime win. Duke was outshot 17-10, but its defense limited the Old Dominion offense to just one goal, well below its season average of 3.56 goals per game.

It is the first weekly award in Nelson's career. She was named to the 2011 Preseason All-ACC Team.
