Maryland's Witmer Honored As ACC Field Hockey Player Of The Week

Sept. 28, 2010

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Maryland attacker Jill Witmer scored the game-winner against Atlantic Coast Conference foe and eighth-ranked Wake Forest en route to being named this week's ACC Field Hockey Player of the Week.

A freshman from Lancaster, Pa., Witmer connected on two of her three shots on goal, both coming in the second half, as Maryland (8-0, 2-0 ACC) edged the Demon Deacons, 5-3.

With the game tied at two, Witmer scored on an assist by Hayley Turner to give the Terps a 3-2 advantage. Less than seven minutes later Witmer increased the lead to 4-2 off a pass from Janessa Pope.

This marks the second consecutive week that Witmer has been recognized. She has scored the game-winner in both of Maryland's conference games this season.
