GREENSBORO, N.C. – Boston College junior midfielder Jacqui Moorfield and Maryland sophomore forward Jill Witmer have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey Co-Players of the Week.
No. 10 Boston College defeated No. 11 Boston University 1-0 Friday night on the strength of Moorfield’s goal in the third minute. Senior Courtney Tavener inserted the ball to sophomore Paige Norris, whose clean stick-stop allowed Moorfield to send a hard drive past the Boston University goalkeeper.
A tough defensive effort from the Eagles the rest of the game made the lone goal stand up and gave Boston College its first win over a ranked opponent in 2011.
Witmer scored four goals in two games to help Maryland defeat Northwestern 3-0 and Villanova 6-3 over the weekend. She notched both game-winning tallies and scored her first career hat trick against Villanova.
The Lancaster, Pa., native is now tied with North Carolina’s Kelsey Kolojejchick for the league lead in goals with seven.
