GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Duke senior defender Lauren Miller, a 2009 first-team National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-America, was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey Scholar-Athlete of the Year and highlights a list of 30 student-athletes selected to the 2009 ACC All-Academic Field Hockey Team, announced today by Commissioner John Swofford. To qualify for selection to the ACC All-Academic team, student-athletes must have earned a 3.0 grade-point-average for the fall semester and have maintained a 3.0 GPA for their careers.
Miller is the first Blue Devil to earn Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors in field hockey. Despite missing two games due to injury, the Cherry Hills Village, Colo., native scored five goals and tallied six assists for 16 points en route to All-ACC honors.
Also highlighting the 2009 edition of the ACC All-Academic Field Hockey Team are four-time selections in Riley Foster of North Carolina and Aileen Davis of Wake Forest. Foster--a defender from Fort Worth, Texas--racked up 18 points on one goal and 16 assists last fall in helping guide the Tar Heels to the school's sixth NCAA title, while Davis--a midfielder/defender from Edinburgh, Scotland--notched six goals, three assists, and 15 points as the Demon Deacons made their 11th consecutive appearance in the NCAA championship.
All six teams were represented with Duke leading the conference with eight selections. Maryland--the 2009 NCAA runner-up--had the second-highest with six picks, and was followed by Boston College with five honorees. Both North Carolina and Virginia placed four picks on the squad, while Wake Forest garnered three selections.
