GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Florida State senior guard Alexa Deluzio and North Carolina freshman forward Xylina McDaniel have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, as announced Monday afternoon by the conference office and voted on by the Blue Ribbon Panel.
Deluzio registered her first career double-double with 25 points and a career-high 12 rebounds in Florida State’s ACC opening win over Boston College, 76-70, on Dec. 30. She also added six assists and converted seven of eight free throw attempts. Deluzio leads the Seminoles and ranks third in the league in scoring with 15.9 points per game. It is her first player of the week honor.
McDaniel earned her third ACC Rookie of the Week honor of the season after averaging 15 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals in North Carolina’s 2-0 week. She led the Tar Heels with a career-high 19 points, six rebounds and six assists in a 65-58 win at Clemson in both teams’ ACC opener. She fueled a 19-2 second-half run that helped the Tar Heels rally from a 10-point deficit and defeat the Tigers in Clemson.
McDaniel also contributed 11 points in 16 minutes in UNC’s 88-45 win over East Tennessee State on Dec. 28.
