2010-11 Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Basketball Schedule Announced

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) -- Atlantic Coast Conference Commissioner John D. Swofford announced today the composite schedule for the upcoming 2010-11 ACC Women’s Basketball season.

Highlights of the upcoming basketball schedule include:
  • 45 televised games, making up 82 television appearances – the third highest count in ACC women’s basketball history – including four games of the annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Dec. 1 and 2, and an ESPN2 telecast of Texas A&M at Duke in the annual Jimmy V Classic on Monday, Dec. 6 to open the 2010-11 television package.
  • Eight ESPN and affiliates games, including seven on ESPN2, highlighted by North Carolina at Maryland on Sunday, Jan. 23, Duke at Connecticut on Monday, Jan. 31, Duke at North Carolina on Monday, Feb. 7 and Maryland at Florida State on Sunday, Feb. 20. ESPN2 will also air the NC State at Georgia Tech contest on Sunday, Feb. 13 as part of the network’s “February Frenzy” campaign, while ESPNU will televise Kentucky at Duke on Tuesday, Jan. 4.
  • 24 conference match-ups on the league’s regional sports network (RSN), inclusive of a battle of last year’s ACC co-regular season champions of Duke and Florida State on Friday, Jan. 14. The regional sports network, which consists of Comcast SportsNet, Fox Sports Net South, Fox Sports Net Florida, and New England Sports Network, reaches approximately 24 million households.
  • Two additional nationally televised games on Fox, including a rematch of the 2010 ACC championship game between Duke and NC State on Sunday, Jan. 23 and the classic in-state rivalry of North Carolina at Duke on Sunday, Feb. 27, which will conclude the 2010-11 regular season.
  • Seven games of the 2011 ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament to be held March 3-6 at the Greensboro Coliseum - four on the regional sports network and three nationally on Fox - the 2011 ACC Tournament semifinal games and the championship game.
  • A nationally televised hour-long preview show on Fox Sports Net and affiliates with a time and date yet to be determined.

The 2010-11 women’s basketball season tips-off on Friday, Nov. 12 with season-opening action for nine teams, while league competition is slated to begin Thursday, Jan. 6, with 10 of the conference’s 12 programs challenging one another.

Each ACC school has at least one home and one road contest broadcast in their local markets as part of the league’s regional sports network package.

This season will feature the fourth annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge, which matches 11 teams from each conference in head-to-head competition traditionally on the first Wednesday and Thursday after Thanksgiving, following the men’s ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The 2010 Challenge will open on Dec. 1, as Florida State and Georgia Tech host Big Ten foes, Michigan State and Northwestern, respectively, and Wake Forest (Michigan) and NC State (Illinois) travel into opponent territory.
