GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – NC State has accepted an at-large bid to the Women’s National Invitation Tournament and takes the ACC’s total of postseason participants to six when the Wolfpack begins play in the 64-team event on Thursday, March 21.
NC State joins fellow ACC members Duke, Maryland, Florida State, Miami and North Carolina, all of which earned NCAA Championship berths, in continuing strong seasons.
The Wolfpack will host Richmond on Thursday at Reynolds Coliseum. A game time will be announced on Tuesday. Should NC State defeat the Spiders, it would play the winner of James Madison and North Carolina A&T with a time, date and location to be determined by the WNIT. All sites, dates and times of subsequent contests will be determined shortly after the previous round is completed.
NC State (16-16) will make its 31st overall postseason appearance and the Wolfpack's third postseason appearance in four seasons under the leadership of head coach Kellie Harper. She led her first NC State team to the 2010 NCAA Tournament and guided last year's squad to the 2012 WNIT.
Senior All-ACC First Team selection and ACC Scholar Athlete of the Year Marissa Kastanek (12.8 ppg) and junior Kody Burke (13.5 ppg) lead this year's edition of the Wolfpack.
