BLACKSBURG, Va. (hokiesports.com) -- The Virginia Tech Athletics Department announced this afternoon that Beth Dunkenberger has submitted a letter of resignation from her position as head women's basketball coach.
Dunkenberger recently completed her seventh season as head coach of the Hokies. She ends her Tech career with a 110-104 record, including 11-19 overall and a 1-13 mark in the Atlantic Coast Conference this past season. The Hokies failed to qualify the past four years for postseason play after receiving bids to two NCAA tournaments (2005, 2006) and to one WNIT tournament (2007) during Dunkenberger's first three seasons.
The Shawsville, Va., native came to Virginia Tech after serving as head coach at Western Carolina (2000-04) for four years. She was also was an assistant coach at Florida (1997-00) and at Virginia Tech (1990-97). Dunkenberger served as graduate assistant (1988-90) at Tech where she earned her M.S. degree in Education-Sport Management in 1990.
A search for Dunkenberger's replacement will begin immediately.
