GREENSBORO, NC - The 2012 ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament will feature its fourth annual “Mascot Night presented by Food Lion” on the final session of Friday, March 2.
Beginning at 5 p.m., the mascots from each of the 12 ACC institutions will be on hand at the Greensboro Coliseum to greet and interact with patrons, pose for photos, hand out autographed posters and bring family fun to those in attendance for Session VI (6 & 8 p.m. games) of the Tournament.
“The ACC and the Greensboro Coliseum have focused on making this particular session of the Tournament a value-packed, entertaining night of basketball and a unique opportunity for families to have fun with the most recognizable ‘characters’ of our conference family,” said ACC Associate Commissioner and Tournament Director Nora Lynn Finch.
Fans can see their favorite mascots, who begin their Friday participating in the morning news (WFMY, WXII, & WGHP) from the hours of 5 a.m. to 8 a.m., at several different locations throughout the day. Ten mascots whose teams will not be competing in Friday’s 11 a.m. women’s basketball game at the Coliseum will spend quality time at Food Lion (Palladium Shopping Center, High Point) bagging groceries and enjoying photo opportunities with customers.
The entire group of mascots will be available in FanFest, located in the Coliseum Pavilion, beginning at 4:30 p.m., while a “Meet and Greet” is scheduled for fans from 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on the Greensboro Coliseum concourse and two special halftime performances will be delivered by the energized mascots.
Tickets for “Mascot Night presented by Food Lion” and all other sessions of the 2012 ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament are still on sale now. Tickets may be purchased at www.ticketmaster.com, via Ticketmaster’s Charge-By-Phone Network at 800-745-3000, at Ticketmaster outlets, at select Walmart locations, and at the Coliseum advance box office.
The 2012 ACC Women’s Tournament will mark the 13th consecutive year the Coliseum has played host to the event. Last year, the 2011 Tournament drew more than 59,000 fans, which witnessed the Blue Devils win their seventh ACC Championship with an 81-66 victory over 19th-ranked North Carolina. Duke has now won ACC titles from 2000-04 (five-straight) and 2010-11 (two-straight).
