Feb. 23, 2012

Towson, Md. (GoPack.com) – NC State women’s basketball players Marissa Kastanek and Kody Burke have been named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America® Division I Women’s Basketball Teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

NC State was the only school with more than one member on the three teams as Kastanek was a second team selection while Burke was named to the third team.

Kastanek, from Lincoln, Neb., is a psychology major with a 4.00 grade-point-average. She leads the Wolfpack in scoring with 12.9 points per game this season, and ranks among the top free throw and three-point shooters in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Burke, who hails from Northridge, Calif., owns a 3.95 GPA as a management major. She ranks third on the Pack with 10.3 points and second with 5.0 rebounds per game. She is the fourth leading shot blocker in the ACC with 1.5 per game.

Both were first team All-Region selections, thus qualified as candidates for selection to the Academic All-American team.

Kastanek and Burke represent the second and third players in program history to earn this award, joining Jennifer Howard, who earned a spot on the Academic All-America team three times from 1995-97.
