GREENSBORO, N.C. - Duke junior guard Tricia Liston and North Carolina freshman forward Xylina McDaniel have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Basketball Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, as announced Monday afternoon by the conference office and voted on by the Blue Ribbon Panel.
Liston led the Blue Devils to three ACC wins last week, including a 71-56 victory over No. 7/8 Maryland on Feb. 11, where she scored 17 points and added six rebounds and two steals. In Duke's 81-70 win against Wake Forest, Liston poured in a career-high 29 points to lead all scorers, and contributed nine rebounds and two assists in 33 minutes of action. With the Blue Devils up only two points with just over three minutes left to play, Liston scored nine of Duke's final 13 points to seal the win.
For the week, Liston averaged 18.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.0 assist, while connecting on 8-of-13 3-pointers and 12-of 13 free throws. She was also recognized as espnW's National Player of the Week for her efforts.
McDaniel earned her league-leading sixth ACC Rookie of the Week honor of the season after averaging 20.0 points and 7.0 rebounds in North Carolina's 1-1 week. McDaniel just missed a double-double in North Carolina's 76-56 win at Wake Forest, finishing with 15 points and nine rebounds. At No. 19/20 Florida State, McDaniel scored a career-high 25 points, on 9-of-14 shooting from field, to lead all scorers, and added five rebounds and two assists.
