GREENSBORO, N.C. - Miami senior forward Morgan Stroman and freshman forward Keyona Hayes have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Basketball Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, as announced Monday afternoon by the conference office and voted on by the Blue Ribbon Panel.
Stroman led the Hurricanes with 20.0 points and 10.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week. Stroman returned to her home state of South Carolina to play at Clemson and did not disappoint friends and family who were in attendance. The Hopkins, S.C., native delivered 24 points, a career-high 16 rebounds and four assists in a 62-46 win over the Tigers. Three days later against No. 19/20 Florida State, Stroman scored a team-high 16 points and pulled down five rebounds. It is Stroman's first Player of the Week nod in her career.
Hayes earned her first ACC Rookie of the Week honor of the season after averaging 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Hurricanes. Hayes recorded her fourth double-double of the season at Clemson when she scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Against the Seminoles, the rookie from Marietta, Ga., pulled down 10 rebounds, but fell two points short of recording back-to-back double-doubles for the first time in her young career.
ACC women's basketball action continues tonight with No. 5/4 Duke hosting No. 7/7 Maryland live on ESPN2 as part of Big Monday.
