GREENSBORO, N.C. - Florida State senior forward Chelsea Davis and Maryland freshman forward Chloe Pavlech have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Basketball Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, as announced Monday afternoon by the conference office and voted on by the Blue Ribbon Panel.
Davis averaged 21 points and six rebounds in a 2-0 week for the Seminoles. Davis scored a team-high 23 points, on 10-of-13 shooting from the field, and added five rebounds and three blocks in a 76-71 win over Georgia Tech. Two days later against Virginia Tech, Davis registered 19 points and seven rebounds, while shooting 58.3 percent. Davis leads the league in field goal percentage (.609) in conference games.
Davis' Player of the Week nod marks the fourth Seminole to earn the honor this season, which makes Florida State the third program in ACC history to have four different players named player of the week in a single season.
Pavlech was key to the Terrapins' 85-59 win over No. 11/16 North Carolina on Jan. 24 as she scored 18 points, including 12 in the first half, and help Maryland to a 12-point halftime lead. After the Tar Heels went up by one point with 9:39 to play in the first, Pavlech hit a jumper and a 3-pointer to spark a 9-0 run to take the lead for good. Against Clemson, Pavlech was the facilitator of the Terps' potent offense with seven assists.
These are the first weekly honors of the season for both Davis and Pavlech.
ACC women's basketball action continues on Thursday, Jan. 31, with 10 teams in action.
