GREENSBORO, N.C. – Maryland junior forward Alyssa Thomas and Georgia Tech freshman guard Brittany Jackson have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, as announced Monday afternoon by the conference office and voted on by the Blue Ribbon Panel.
Thomas averaged 22 points and 13 rebounds in a 2-0 week for the Terps, including a win over No. 24/25 Miami on Jan. 10. Thomas scored a team-high 18 points and added eight rebounds and five assists in the 84-62 win over the Hurricanes. Three days later at Virginia Tech, Thomas did it all and pulled down a career-high 18 rebounds to go along with a season-high 26 points, six assists and three blocks. It is the second time Thomas has been named ACC Player of the Week this season and sixth time in her career.
Jackson earned her second ACC Rookie of the Week honor of the season after averaging 20 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals for the Yellow Jackets. She was Georgia Tech’s leading scorer in both contests against Virginia and at North Carolina. Against the Cavaliers, Jackson came off the bench and connected on 7-of-19 attempts, including five 3-pointers. She followed that up with her second straight 20-point outing, making 5-of-14 shots and four 3-pointers in 26 minutes of action against the Tar Heels.
ACC Women’s Basketball action continues on Wednesday, Jan. 16, with Duke hosting Virginia Tech at 7 p.m., at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
