Miami Overpowers NC State in ACC Opener

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The Miami Hurricanes opened their Atlantic Coast Conference schedule in near-flawless fashion Thursday night, overpowering the visiting NC State Wolfpack 79-53 at the BankUnited Center.

Miami took early control with a 16-3 run out of the gates, extended its lead to 24 by halftime, and put the Wolfpack away for good with a 14-0 run to start the second frame. Powered by a season-high 21 points from Stefanie Yderstrom, the hosts earned their 47th home win in the last 48 tries.



Boston College Tops Vermont, 80-43

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Junior Kristen Doherty recorded game highs with a season-best 19 points and 12 rebounds to lead Boston College to an 80-43 win over Vermont on Thursday night at Conte Forum.

The Eagles (6-5) outscored the Catamounts (3-9) 50-17 in the second half en route to the victory.

Doherty also totaled game highs in assists (6) and steals (4) to complement her second double-double of the season. Freshman Nicole Boudreau notched 13 points and a career-high eight rebounds, and junior Katie Zenevitch scored 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting.



Hawkins Leads No. 9 Maryland Past Delaware, 69-53

NEWARK, Del. (AP) - Tianna Hawkins had 16 points and 16 rebounds, and No. 9 Maryland hounded All-American Elena Delle Donne in her return from an illness as the Terrapins beat Delaware 69-53 on Thursday night.

Delle Donne played for just the second time this season after missing a month with Lyme Disease. She finished with 19 points and six rebounds but was 7 for 23 from the floor in 34 minutes. She also missed the first three games of the season.

Alyssa Thomas added 13 points and 13 rebounds, and Katie Rutan scored 13 for the Terps (8-2), who won their fourth straight game.
