TAMPA, Fla. - The South Florida defense stepped-up in the second half and held Wake Forest without a field goal for the final ten minutes en route to a 63-54 victory Tuesday night in the Sun Dome.
The win improves South Florida to 7-4 on the year while the Deacs drop their third-straight game and are now 5-4 on the season.
The Bulls were also the more aggressive team on the boards in the second-half, outrebounding Wake 28-13 in the final 20 minutes.
Three USF players reached double-figures led by Daleisha Carn and Porche Grant with 14. Carn scored 10 of her 14 points in the second half while Grant also grabbed 14 rebounds. Andrell Smith chipped-in with 10 points and five rebounds.
For the Deacs, senior Brittany Waters led the way with 16 points and is now just 14 points shy of 1,000 for her career. Sophomore Lakevia Boykin added 10 points and Secily Ray finished with four points and a career-high four blocked shots.
