WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - After closing out the first half on a 19-5 run and hauling in 19 offensive rebounds for 24 second-chance points, Wake Forest cruised to an 80-60 win over Florida A&M at Lawrence Joel Coliseum on Tuesday evening.
With the win, Wake Forest improves to 4-5 on the young season, while Florida A&M drops to 2-5.
Lakevia Boykin led the Deacs in scoring with 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting with three three-pointers. Joining her in double figures for the night were Dearica Hamby (14), Lindsy Wright (12), Chelsea Douglas (11) and Asia Williams (10).
Mykala Walker consistently crashed the boards for Wake, leading all players with 10 rebounds. Hamby and Wright also tallied eight rebounds apiece, while Sandra Garcia added seven of her own.
For the game, the Demon Deacons shot 31-of-66 from the field, including an impressive 18-of-30 (60.0 percent) mark in the second half. Aided by strong performances by their big players inside, the Deacs also outrebounded Florida A&M by a 46-34 margin.
