RALEIGH, N.C. - Junior forward Kody Burke scored 20 points, grabbed six rebounds and blocked four shots to lead the NC State women's basketball team to an 81-54 victory over Charleston Southern, Tuesday evening at Reynolds Coliseum.
Burke, who shot 9-of-14 from the field and a perfect 2-of-2 from the free throw line, has now reached double-figure scoring in all four games this season, and in seven-straight games dating back to last season.
NC State (4-0) stormed out of the gates with a 9-0 run to start the game, and built its lead to as many as 15 over the first 13 minutes of the game. Charleston Southern (2-1) battled back however, forcing the Pack into 14 turnovers and cutting its deficit to just six, with the score 38-32 heading at the break.
The Wolfpack shot 15-of-29 (.571) from the field and 4-of-10 (.400) from three-point range, while holding the Buccaneers to 10-of-34 (.294) shooting from the floor and 5-of-19 (.263) from beyond the arc in the first half.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Senior guard Kerri Shields scored a team-high 18 points to lead Boston College to a 64-59 victory over a pesky UNH team in front of 848 fans at Conte Forum on Tuesday night.
Boston College improved to 3-1 with the win. It marks the first time BC has won three consecutive games since the 2010-11 season.
"Obviously, it feels great but it was in question tonight. (UNH) played hard and picked on some of our weaknesses,'' said head coach Erik Johnson. "We had to fight with everything we had to win that game. It was a hard fought effort.''
Shields, who had 16 points in the first half, shot 6-for-12 from the floor and 4-for-7 from beyond the arc in the game. Junior Katie Zenevitch notched her second consecutive double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds while freshman Nicole Boudreau had 15 points, 10 points and four steals in the second half.
