BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - The fourth-seeded Maryland women's basketball team hung with top-seeded Connecticut early, but a spurt to start the second half put the Huskies in front to advance to the Elite Eight, 76-50.
Alyssa Thomas had 13 points and nine rebounds to lead Maryland (26-8). Tianna Hawkins and Chloe Pavlech each had 11 points for the Terps. Alicia DeVaughn added 11 rebounds with nine points.
The Terrapins and the Huskies traded leads early and the difference remained in single digits throughout the first half. UConn led 35-26 at halftime, then opened the second half on a 9-0 run.
Breanna Stewart and Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis each scored 17 points.
