GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Maryland 184-pound junior Jimmy Sheptock has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Wrestler of the Week for the second time this season after posting a pair of dual wins, including a sudden- victory over the nation’s sixth-ranked wrestler that spelled the difference in a one-point team win over No. 14 Nebraska.
Wrestling as part of a twin bill featuring top-20 teams at New York’s “Grapple at the Garden,” Sheptock opened Saturday’s action with a 9-3 decision over Kenny Courts of No. 4 Ohio State. In the match against Nebraska, Sheptock’s 6-4 win over sixth-ranked Josh Ihnen in overtime sparked a closing, come-from-behind flurry by the No. 18 Terrapins. Maryland posted victories in the final three weight classes to claim an 18-17 team win.
Sheptock, ranked 10th nationally entering Saturday’s action, moved up to sixth in the InterMat rankings released on Tuesday. He improved to a team-best 17-1 this season, including a 9-0 mark in dual matches. The Northampton, Pa., native now owns a career record of 22-0 in dual matches. Sheptock was previously named ACC Wrestler of the Week on Dec. 4, when he shared the honor with Virginia Tech’s Pete Yates.
