GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Maryland 133-pound Geoffrey Alexander has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Wrestler of the Week for the second time this season following a two-victory weekend that included a road win over a top-10 opponent.
Wrestling in his hometown vs. Pittsburgh, the 14th-ranked Alexander scored a hard-fought 3-2 decision over the Panthers’ sixth-ranked Shelton Mack on Friday evening. With the win, Alexander improved to 3-1 vs. fellow nationally ranked opponents this season.
Alexander followed up with a 13-2 major decision over Esteban Gomez-Rivera of American, a win that proved crucial in a 23-21 Terrapins’ team victory. The major decision victory was Alexander’s second of the season in dual competition this season, tying 184-pound Jimmy Sheptock for the team lead.
Alexander has now scored 20 dual meet points this season, which ranks second on Maryland’s team. Alexander was earlier named the ACC Wrestler of the Week on Nov. 6, when he shared the honor with Duke 197-pounder Conner Hartman.
