GREESNBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) - North Carolina 125-pound freshman Nathan Kraisser has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Wrestler of the Week after a pair of dual wins over league opponents ranked among the nation's top seven.
Kraisser ran his season dual record to 8-0 as he picked up the two biggest wins of his young career. The Ellicott City, Md., native jumped out to a 5-2 lead after one period against Virginia's No. 7 Matt Snyder on Friday before adding a takedown in the final period to claim the 8-5 win.
Kraisser jumped out to a big lead against Virginia Tech's No. 4 Jarrod Garnett on Saturday as well with a takedown and a three-point near fall in the first period. Kraisser added an escape in the second and a takedown in the third en route to the 9-2 decision. The loss was just the second of the year for the fourth-ranked Garnett.
With Friday and Saturday's wins, the 13th-ranked Kraisser defeated the two wrestlers who have combined to claim the last three ACC Championships in the 125-poud weight class.
