GREENSBORO, N.C. - Maryland 157-pound senior Kyle John has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Wrestler of the Week for the second time this season after helping the 13th-ranked Terps to a pair of dual road wins at West Virginia and conference rival Virginia Tech.
John keyed a 22-15 win at West Virginia on Friday with a 14-6 major decision over the Mountaineers' Dominic Prezzia. The Coopersburg, Pa., native followed up with a pin of Virginia Tech's Matt Stephens in a time of 6:50 on Sunday. The pin sparked Maryland to a 25-10 win over the No. 15 Hokies, the first victory by an ACC opponent over the Hokies in dual action since Feb. 15, 2008 (16 consecutive Virginia Tech league wins).
The Terps (10-0, 1-0) were tied with West Virginia and trailed Virginia Tech by a point before John's efforts gave the visitors the upper hand in both matches.
