GREENSBORO (theACC.com) – Virginia senior Jarmere Jenkins has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, announced Tuesday by the league office.
The honor is Jenkins’ second of the season as he was named Player of the Week on March 5.
Jenkins led the Cavaliers to a pair of wins to remain unbeaten on the season, including a 7-0 decision over No. 25 Clemson on April 12, which marked the program’s 100th consecutive victory over an ACC opponent (regular or postseason).
The College Park, Ga., native earned a top-25 singles win over Clemson’s Yannick Maden, 6-3, 7-6 (6) at No. 1 and paired with Mac Styslinger for a pair of doubles wins over ranked foes. The duo defeated Clemson’s Maden brothers, ranked No. 22, 9-8 (4) and cruised to an 8-2 win over No. 67 Juan Spir and Eduardo Segura of Georgia Tech.
The win over Georgia Tech’s Spir and Segura marked Jenkins’ 100th career doubles win, making him the eighth player in program history with at least 100 career singles wins and 100 career doubles wins.
The final week of regular season ACC action concludes this weekend. The ACC Tennis Championships are set for April 25-28 at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.
