GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – NC State sophomore Austin Powell has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, announced Tuesday by the league office.
Powell totaled three singles wins and one doubles victory, while the Wolfpack earned wins over Wisconsin (7-0), No. 19 Florida State (5-2) and No. 65 Miami (5-2).
The sophomore from Muscle Shoals, Ala., pushed his singles win streak to eight matches following three, three-set wins. While playing at No. 2 singles,
Powell topped Wisconsin’s Petr Satral, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2. In both league matches against Florida State and Miami, Powell moved to the No. 1 position and collected wins against Florida State’s No. 122 Dominic Cotrone (4-6, 7-5, 6-1) and Miami’s Diego Soto (1-6, 6-1, 6-3).
Powell teamed with Beck Bond at No. 3 doubles and earned an 8-4 win over the Hurricanes duo of Marco Stancati and Henrique Tsukamoto to clinch the doubles point and the early lead for NC State.
