GREENSBORO, N.C. - NC State sophomore Jaime Pulgar has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week after a three-match run that included a win over the nation's fifth-ranked player, as well as singles and doubles victories in the Wolfpack's upset of 33rd-ranked Clemson.
Pulgar, who entered the week ranked 94thnationally, capped his week with Sunday's 6-4, 6-4 win over Georgia Tech's fifth-ranked Guillermo Gomez on the No. 1 court. The Madrid, Spain, native's victory came two days after Pulgar's 6-3, 6-1 win over Clemson's Carlos Alvarez, which keyed No. 46 NC State's 5-2 decision over the Tigers.
The two ACC singles victories capped a week to remember for Pulgar, who had battled back and forth with No. 56 Steven Forman of Wake Forest on Wednesday before falling short in a three-set marathon. Pulgar's week also included a pair of wins while teaming with Thomson in doubles - 8-5 over Clemson's Alvarez and Juan Bolona, and 8-7 over Georgia Tech's Gomez and Dean O'Brien.
