Henrique Cunha Named ACC Men's Tennis Player of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Duke senior Henrique Cunha has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, announced Tuesday by the league office.

The honor is Cunha’s second of the season as he was named Player of the Week on Jan. 22.

Cunha totaled four wins over ranked opponents at No. 1 singles and doubles last weekend in a 1-1 road tilt at No. 1 Virginia and at No. 52 Virginia Tech.

Against the Cavaliers, Cunha and doubles partner Raphael Hemmeler, who form the nation’s No. 1 doubles team, started the weekend with an 8-3 win over the No. 2 ranked duo of Jamere Jenkins and Mac Stylslinger. In singles play, Cunha went on to defeat No. 5 Jenkins, 6-4, 6-0 at the top singles slot.

In the Blue Devils’ 7-0 shutout of the Hokies on March 24, Cunha and Hemmler continued their dominant play by clinching the doubles point after a thrilling 9-8 (2) victory over No. 21 Andreas Bjerrehus and Amerigo Contini. In singles action, Cuhna won his 12th straight match in the form of a 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 decision over No. 73 Contini.

Cunha is 12-2 against nationally ranked opponents this season.
