GREENSBORO, N.C. – Fresh off the ITA National Team Indoor Championship title run, Virginia junior Alex Domijan has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, announced Tuesday.
Domijan won four singles matches and was a part of three doubles victories to help the Cavaliers earn their fifth ITA National Team Indoor Championship in the past six years. All four of his singles wins came at the No. 2 position, while defeating three top-15 opponents.
The Wesley Chapel, Fla., native’s 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 decision over No. 2 Peter Kobelt was the final win of the semifinal match against No. 4 Ohio State that clinched Virginia’s berth in the title match. The following day, Domijan defeated No. 20 Emilo Gomez of USC in the final to help the Cavaliers earn a 4-2 win over the No. 2 Trojans and their fifth ITA National Team Indoor title.
Along with those two wins, Domijan defeated No. 9 Duke’s Michael Redlicki, who is ranked No. 15 by the ITA, 6-3, 6-1 in the quarterfinal match, and took down No. 24 Washington’s Marton Bots, 6-2, 6-0, in the first match of the tournament. Domijan paired with Mitchell Frank at No. 3 doubles and the duo earned three wins, including over two ranked tandems.
