GREENSBORO, N.C. – Duke junior Henrique Cunha has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week after defeating fellow ranked opponents in singles and doubles and leading the Blue Devils to a 6-1 road win at 20th-ranked Tennessee.
Cunha, who has won or shared the ACC Player of the Week honor each of the past four weeks, helped the Blue Devils start the season 7-0, the program’s best start since the 1954-55 season. Ranked seventh in the ITA poll, Cunha posted his 20th singles victory of the season in a 6-0, 7-5 defeat of No. 125 Mikelis Libietis of Tennessee on the No. 1 court. Cunha improved to 6-0 in dual match singles play. In doubles, the Jau, Brazil, native teamed up with Fred Saba for an 8-6 win over 33rd-ranked Libietis and Hunter Reese at the No. 1 position to move to 4-0 on the spring.
