CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The 24th-ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team upset No. 20 North Carolina 5-2 on Tuesday, marking the first ACC loss for the Tar Heels.
Wake Forest improves to 9-5 overall and 3-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. North Carolina is now 12-3, 3-1.
North Carolina opened play by taking the doubles point. Jason Morgenstern and Jon Wolff picked up the only Wake Forest doubles win, defeating Brennan Boyajian and Cameron Ahari 9-7.
Iain Atkinson and Tripper Carleton each picked up singles wins to push the Demon Deacons in front of UNC to start the final matches of the afternoon. Carleton topped 78th-ranked Jose Hernandez 6-0, 7-6(5) following Atkinson's 6-2, 7-6(3) victory over Stefan Hardy.
UNC's 108th-ranked Brennan Boyajian defeated Wolff 6-2, 6-3 for the only Tar Heels singles win, tying the match score at 2-2.
Steven Forman upset No. 51 Clary Donato at the top of the lineup in three sets, 6-1, 2-6, 6-3. Danny Kreyman clinched the Wake Forest win with a 6-2, 7-6(3) win at No. 5 and Zach Leslie wrapped things up with a 7-5, 7-6(2) win over Carmeron Ahari at No. 6.
