CHAPEL HILL - North Carolina won the first four team points decided to beat N.C. State 6-1 in a top-40 matchup Monday afternoon.
UNC opened up the match by sweeping doubles play. Cam Ahari and Jose Hernandez clinched the team point by defeating N.C. State's Fernando Banos and Jaime Pulgar 8-3.
No. 103 Stefan Hardy was the first to finish in singles play with a 6-3, 6-3 victory against NCSU's Rob Lowe. Ninety-seventh ranked Brennan Boyajian extended the UNC lead to 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-4 win at the fourth singles flight. Needing one point to clinch the match, the Tar Heels turned to top singles player Clay Donato. The 49th-ranked senior beat State's Jaime Pulgar 6-4, 6-2 in a matchup of top-100 singles players to seal the victory for UNC.
