Hokies upset No. 14 Kentucky, 5-2
Virginia Tech opened the 2010 dual match season in style Wednesday afternoon upsetting No. 14 Kentucky, 5-2, at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on the Virginia Tech campus. Tech improves to 1-0 with the victory while the Wildcats suffered their first loss to fall to 2-1.
Virginia Tech, ranked No. 27 in the ITA preseason national poll, lost two of three tight matches to lose the doubles point, but bounced back to win five of the six singles contest.
In singles action, Tech evened the match as Will Beck (Jr., Portomac, Md.), a transfer from Kentucky, picked up the Hokies first point of the day with a, 6-1, 6-3, win at No. 6 over Alex Lambropoulos. However, just moments later Kentucky recaptured the lead as Anthony Rossi won, 6-0, 6-2, over No. 100 Sebastien Jacques (Jr., Magog, Quebec, Canada) in the No. 5 match.
