GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) - Wake Forest sophomore forward Sean Okoli has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week, announced by league officials Monday.
It is the second weekly honor of the season for Okoli who was named ACC Co-Player of the Week on Oct. 23.
Okoli scored a goal and an assist in Wake Forest’s 4-2 win over previously unbeaten Maryland on Nov. 1. Okoli scored the Demon Deacon’s opening goal in the 14th minute by heading in a cross from Collin Martin. After Maryland scored back-to-back goals to go ahead 2-1, Okoli found Ross Tomaselli to tie the score before Wake Forest scored two unanswered goals for its 11th win of the season. Wake Forest’s win over Maryland solidified the No. 3 seed in the ACC Men’s Soccer Championship for the Demon Deacons and home field advantage in the quarterfinals of the tournament.
Okoli is one of three players to record three-or-more points against the Terps this season. The Federal Way, Wash., native owns the second-best goals total in the league with 10.
ACC Championship Quarterfinal action gets underway on Tuesday, Nov. 6. No. 1 Maryland will host No. 9 Virginia Tech, who defeated NC State Monday, 3-2, for a berth in the quarterfinals. No. 2 North Carolina will host No. 7 Duke, No. 3 Wake Forest will host No. 6 Virginia and No. 4 Clemson will host No. 5 Boston College.
